Farro.ca Brand & Website
The Passionate Gourmet commissioned the Farro.ca identity and website for a specialty low-gluten Italian grain product they were importing for sale to restaurants and retail stores. Their requirements for the identity were that it be able to function both:
(1) as a brand identity for an stand-alone information source to introduce the many benefits of Farro; and
(2) as an appropriate brand mark for food product packaging.

Since Farro is an ancient Mediterranean grain (it also goes by the name Emmer), and was fed to Roman armies as a staple, I found inspiration in rough-hewn Roman coinage and symbols. The logo is designed to resemble a medallion, seal, or stamped impression.
This "medallion" design also suggested a wide variety of future packaging and design techniques, including debossing/embossing the seal in paper, rough/recyclable kraft paper stocks, and grain burlap "sack" packaging with stamped clay tags.
